Job Description:
The Assistant Director provides functional and strategic operational oversight across the Office of Online Student Success, specifically relating to admissions, enrollment, and advising processes, operational efficiencies, and student records management. The Assistant Director is a key member of the Online Student Success team, providing operational leadership support and functional integration to the entire unit. The position will oversee student services operations for online degree programs through the College of Professional Studies at Syracuse University. Working directly with the Executive Director of Online Student Success, the Assistant Director is responsible for leading and managing operations across the unit, developing process efficiencies that will bring the unit to scale, and thinking strategically and operationally as it relates to online student success and retention. The Assistant Director defines workflows and processes for the department and serves as backup to the Executive Director as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in higher education, operations management, or related field.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates leadership and initiative.
  • Strong customer service background preferred.
  • Familiarity with online learning technology a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, Rules & Regulations, etc.
  • Ability to utilize all available technology to include, but not limited to, Orange SUccess, Onbase, PeopleSoft, CollegeNet, DegreeWorks.
  • Proven ability to collect information and maintain discretion.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and to foster the success of others.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate level university degree requirements.
  • Ability to actively listen, independently problem solve, and effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and the broader university community.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.


Responsibilities:
  • Oversee admissions, enrollment, advising and student records operations for the Office of Online Student Success, including but not limited to: records processing in PeopleSoft, Degree Works and Orange Success, application management, academic probation processes, degree certification processes, petitions, IUTs, transfer credit, declarations, exceptions, FERPA forms, other student services related documents. Responsible for accurate and consistent processing of student records. Develop and maintain reporting systems to support tracking. Supervise 2-4 operational positions within the Office of Online Student Success.
  • Provides leadership and initiative across the Online Student Success unit including but not limited to: efficiencies of processes and operations, admissions and enrollment processes, student records reporting functions, and transfer credit processes. Assist the Executive Director with strategic oversight and departmental goals and objectives. Serve as backup to the Executive Director as needed.
  • Serve as department primary point of contact for management of OnBase processes pertaining to student record keeping. Direct implementation of new projects/systems/processes/training. This developing and maintaining procedural manuals and training colleagues on navigation of systems. Manage records and reporting on non-matriculated students. Manage phone tree and general office email coverage and shared calendars for all Online Student Success team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
